Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is widely recognized as the premier training center in the New England area for authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Boston BJJ Academy was founded in 1995 by Roberto Maia, 5th-degree black belt under Carlos Gracie, Jr. The Academy traces its roots directly back to the original Gracie Barra academy located in Barra da Tijuca, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Gracie Barra is owned and operated by Master Carlos Gracie Jr., the son of Carlos Gracie, the late founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Jimmy DelOrfano, 1st-degree black belt under Roberto Maia, opened Boston BJJ Woburn in 2013.

What Our Students Have to Say…
When I first started my jiu-jitsu journey a year and a half ago I had no idea the impact BJJ would have on my life. Not only has jiu-jitsu given me a hobby that I absolutely love, it also has made me so much stronger and more aware of my body. I am forever thankful that I started this journey at BBJJ Woburn. The instructors, Jimmy and Patrick, both create an atmosphere that is both encouraging and challenging and it always feels like they are really invested in your progress. The community that has developed in Woburn is welcoming and made my entrance into a predominately male sport that much easier. I cannot say enough good things about the training at BBJJ Woburn. I am so thankful that I started training at this academy, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I’ve been training in martial arts for over 29 years now. In all of that time I have never had the opportunity to train at school like Boston BJJ Woburn or with an instructor like Professor Jimmy DelOrfano. The facility is amazing, the environment is friendly and welcoming, the training is honest and challenging, and the instruction is world class. Jimmy has created an environment where students of all levels can train and excel. The hands-on instruction from Professors Jimmy and Patrick provide an opportunity for every student to improve in their Jiu-Jitsu with every class. I am truly fortunate to have found the school and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn self-defense, get or stay in shape, or just pick up a really fun hobby.

Rarely do you have an instructor who has the humility and desire for his students to learn through his own challenges, hoping that one day they may be as good as he is. That’s what I think of with Jimmy. At Boston BJJ, it’s not only about learning the art, it’s a group of friends that continue a life journey together. Regardless of your skill set, you immediately feel the close-knit ties and welcoming nature of the group.

I have been with Boston BJJ since 2007, and I’ve trained with Jimmy for much of that time. He has been an invaluable teacher, mentor, and training partner to me for years. He is not only tremendously talented and hardworking, but he is an excellent instructor to students of all levels. Jimmy cares deeply about his academy, his students, and his training partners; he has profound respect for all who developed the art before him, and especially for Professor Maia; and he embodies the most important elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a lifestyle.
